FAQ About Air Duct Cleaning

Q: I received a coupon in the mail advertising a much lower price. Is there a difference in service?

A: Yes, the companies that charge a nominal fee, for example “$139 whole house special,” often send one man to do seven or eight jobs a day. This technique does not allow enough time to do a thorough job cleaning out your duct work. These companies may also persuade the consumer into unneeded services. Typically companies with such strategies have a different price for each portion of the system, and their technicians are encouraged to up sell each area of the system. Instead of paying our employees by commission, we pay our employees by the hour, eliminating the high pressure sales tactic.

Q: What are some of the benefits of having my duct work professionally cleaned?

A: Having the air ducts cleaned can significantly improve the health of the air in your home or office. Once the ducts are clean of debris, you should notice:

  • Increased air flow
  • Even temperatures from room to room
  • Lower utility bills
  • Improved indoor air quality
  • Reduced allergy triggers
  • Reduced frequency of house cleaning

Q: Are there any health benefits that come from cleaning my ductwork?

A: Yes, professionally cleaned and deodorized ductwork can reduce mold, fungi, pollen, bacteria, and dust particles. These contaminants are known to trigger allergies, asthma and other health problems. By reducing the contaminants in the ductwork, you are allowing the air that circulates throughout your home to be cleaner, and therefore healthier.

Q: Will you get a lot of dust in my house during the air duct cleaning process?

A: No, our high powered vacuum trucks create a negative air pressure throughout the system, removing all dust and debris directly outside to the truck.

Q: How often should I have my ductwork cleaned?

A: NADCA, the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, recommends to have your air ducts cleaned every three to five years. An individual may want to consider more frequent cleanings under these listed circumstances:

  • Residents with allergies or asthma
  • Smokers in the household
  • Pet dander and hair
  • Water/ smoke contamination to the home
  • After home renovations or remodeling
  • Prior to the occupancy of a newly constructed home (construction debris)
  • Purchasing an existing home

Q: How long will it take to clean the ductwork in my home?

A: This varies depending on the size of the home and the layout of the ductwork. An average size home can take between three and five hours with two trained technicians.

Q: What are encapsulants?

A: Products that are used to seal the inside of ductwork. Air Duct Maintenance, Inc. does not recommend the use of these products except in very specific situations, such as fiberglass insulation that has deteriorated.

Q: What is EnviroCon, and why would they need to use it?

A: EnviroCon is an EPA registered microbial control product applied to the interior surface of the air ducts, designed to control microbial contamination. Before EnviroCon is applied, the system should be thoroughly cleaned. It is critical that any microbial control treatment used in your system be EPA registered for the intended use in HVAC systems.
